Work Experience- Commission on Economic Opportunity

I was halfway through my business degree at Cazenovia College when I realized that the business field was not where I wanted to be. I believe that if you can't find your passion, your passion will find you; CEO is where my passion did just that. I started at CEO as a summer intern because I wasn't sure if I'd be committing to my return to Caz yet. At CEO I performed many office tasks such as filing, printing, typing, and using Microsoft Office. I was placed in the Work Ready Program as a case manager, where I held the responsibility to train my clients for work-related tasks such as developing a resume and cover letter, attending professional interviews, and developing a personal work ethic. You really get to know an individual as their case manager, and you learn a lot about their personal situations. About 2% of my clients had Diabetes Mellitus, and a great deal of them were either pregnant or new to motherhood. My clients daily schedule included two breaks where they were permitted to eat at their desks, and it was during these breaks that I found myself oddly (and creepily) interested in what they were having for lunch and the topic of "what's for dinner tonight." I quickly began to question the consequences of consuming a Poptart and a Mountain Dew for lunch, especially for those who suffered from DM. I started researching the topic and learning more about nutrition and I realized that I found my passion. I continued to work at CEO in a permanent position for over 2 years before relocating to the Scranton area to attend Marywood University.
